I had my first official Bounce Back coaching appointment this morning, and it went very well. After our last telephone call to set up this appointment, my coach emailed me 2 documents:
-A booklet outlining the program and introduction to Bounce Back; and
-Workbook 1: Starting Out.
The introductory workbook answers frequently asked questions and outlines their confidentiality policy clearly, what I can expect from the program and what they expect from me - both my rights and my responsibilities. It also includes workbook descriptions (there are a total of 22 workbooks you can do), information on an alternative adult series of booklets called “Living Life to the Full”, and participant questionnaire scales to be filled out for both depression and anxiety. These questionnaires are then shared with my doctor.
Booklet 1 - Starting Out, goes over the Bounce Back program again and what I can expect to gain from doing the workbooks. It offers tips on getting started and developing a routine to set aside a good time in the day to focus on working in the workbooks. This is so that they have your complete attention.
Booklet 1 also includes questions about making plans and setting goals for myself, and what I hope to gain from the program. It guides me through making a plan or setting a goal that I really want to work towards, and writing about how I am going to make that happen, despite any potential roadblocks. It then has me outline my final plan.
This morning my coach and I went over my questionnaire scales for depression and anxiety and the intro booklet. We discussed each answer in detail. Before we finished our call, my coach had me pick out 3 workbooks to work on. She likes to work on the initial books in a certain order, which makes sense to me. She was mailing the 3 books I chose today, so I hope to have them by the end of this week or early next week. I chose Workbook 2: Understanding Low Mood and Depression, Workbook 8: Understanding Worry and Stress, and, Workbook 9: Understanding How We Respond to Illness.
We concluded our call by booking my next appointment, which is in about 2 weeks time. My coach likes to have appointments about 2-3 weeks apart.
Overall, I am feeling very positive about this program and I am glad I took the steps to sign up. I am also very happy with my coach and how she is handling things. Her approach clicks with my brain and I look forward to receiving my workbooks and getting started.
